Get out there and Volunteer!!! 3-12-2010

I came across a poem about volunteers (on Energize, Inc.'s website) and I wanted to share it with you because what you do as volunteers is amazing and I feel like it fit.

Your Name Is Volunteer

Written and submitted by Nancy Jo Grim
RSVP Director, May 20, 2005

Your Name Is Volunteer
Your name is love, because you showed me love and compassion when I needed it the most.
Your name is patience, because you took time to listen to me when my stories were long and my heart was heavy.
Your name is kindness, because you used your healing hands to touch my pain and guide me when I was lost.
Your name is mentor, because you taught me the lessons that life cannot teach so soon.
Your name is a volunteer, you are love, patience, kindness, a mentor and so much more…
We celebrate you the volunteer.

So THANK YOU volunteers!

Volunteer Needs 3-5-2010

Think spring...think spring...think spring! That's what I tell myself everyday. I love when the weather gets nice again, it's such a great feeling. It also means the start of outside volunteer projects again! And who doesn't like to get outside?! So keep that in mind as the weather gets nicer. :)

The Volunteer Center would like to congratulate our February 2010 Take a Volunteer to Lunch winner Amy Wood, who volunteers at the Lafayette Crisis Center. She will receive a lunch for two at Lafayette Brewing Co. She has spent over 350 hours providing crisis intervention with compassion to those in need. Not only does she provide a caring ear to those in distress, she also serves the Crisis Center in other areas. Amy is a Crisis Center Trainer and helps train new trainers and volunteers. Congratulations Amy and Thank You Lafayette Brewing Co.!

Random Volunteer Fact:
A study in Washington D.C. came up with the top 3 reasons why people volunteer:
1. They feel compassion for people in need.
2. They feel needed.
3. Volunteering gives them a new perspective on their community.

Why do you volunteer? (Feel free to comment!)
