Take a Volunteer to Lunch- September 2009 Winner!

The Volunteer Center would like to congratulate our September 2009 Take a Volunteer to Lunch winner, Joan McShane! She will receive a lunch for two at Nine Irish Brothers! Joan has been a volunteer at the American Red Cross for the past 10 years. Ms. McShane has been very busy educating the community on various Disaster Preparedness topics. Joan has been involved in that and has just completed their Chapter Disaster Plan, which she has put 100’s of hours into. Congrats Joan and Thank You Nine Irish Brothers!

Do you like to organize? The Volunteer Center is looking for someone to assist a community member organize and de-clutter her home for the fall.

Lafayette Urban Ministry is in need of volunteer case managers to help our shelter guests become self sufficient. Volunteers would follow up on goals set by the guests and myself. Volunteers are needed from 10:00 a.m. - noon and 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Volunteers do not need to be available all day. Just a few hours a week and become volunteer on a regular weekly schedule.

American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 2nd Annual 5K Walk is looking for volunteers to help us before, during and after the event. Date: Saturday October 10 2009 at Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) from 9:00am to 1:00.

Wabash Center is seeking volunteers for its newest division, Tippecanoe Adult Guardianship Services, which provides assistance to incapacitated adults who need someone to assist them accessing care and social services. Training begins Monday, October 19, from 5:30 pm to 9 pm, and continues every Monday & Wednesday for five weeks.

Volunteers are needed for setting up and making props, for a Haunted House called the “Crypt of Terror.” Adults are needed to help every Friday from 9/11/09 thru 10/09/09 during the day. Homestead Consulting Services and Jefferson High School Choral Department are partnering together to host a Haunted House at Market Square in the old Stein Mart building. Even if you can only volunteer part of a day or several days it would be much appreciated. No skills are necessary.

Want to make a difference in only 4 hours a month? Mental Health America is looking for volunteers to spend time with an individual recovering from a mental health challenge. Training and support is provided. Volunteers 30 and over are especially encouraged to apply!
