Fun Volunteer Needs 1/22/2010

Whew, it's ICY today! Stay safe out there! Here are this week's volunteer needs. I hope that you can find something that catches your interest. Please contact me if you are interested in any of the following (samantha@uw.lafayette.in.us).


Food Finders Food Bank is in need of volunteers to help with 3 different projects. Help with surveying/counting individuals at a local soup kitchen- 4 volunteers are needed on Jan. 27th from 8 am- 11 am. Help with the mobile pantry in Peru, IN- 2 volunteers are needed on Jan. 26th from 8 am-4 pm. Help with repackaging frozen foods- 6 volunteers are needed on either Jan. 29th or Feb. 5th times may vary. Contact Danielle at 471-0062.

The Lafayette Adult Resource Academy (LARA) is in need of volunteer-tutors. Volunteers will help tutor students in small groups or one-on-one. Volunteers are also needed to help job seekers in our WorkOne Express Site. Times range from 8:30 am to 11:30 am, 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Training dates are Feb. 1st & 2nd from 5:30 pm – 8 pm, you will need to attend both dates.

Volunteers are needed at the Canal in Delphi. There are a variety of tasks such as- working on the construction crew, being a host at historic trail activities & at the Canal Interpretive Center, being a “Canal Boat Captain”, volunteering for the education program and much more. For more information attend the Volunteer Callout on Feb. 17th at 7 pm at the Canal Center.

The Compeer Program at Mental Health America is in need of male volunteers, 18 and older. Volunteers will spend time with an individual recovering from a mental health challenge. Training and support is provided.

Wabash Center is in need of volunteers to help run clients to and from Dr.’s appointments, grocery shopping, banking, etc. Some clients need assistance while in the Dr.’s office. Volunteers should have daytime availability. Contact for more details.

The Wildcat Creek Wildlife Center in Delphi, Ind. is looking for volunteers who can give 4hrs. a week to help with the following: baby feeders, animal care, maintenance, cage building and repair, clerical, rescue, data entry, phones, or grant writing. Lafayette Transitional Housing Center
is in dire need of volunteers to help with data entry and sorting donations. They are also in need of dressers.

The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life is looking for committed volunteers to assist with planning our 2010 event. As a member of the committee you will have the opportunity to fight back against cancer, work with a fun group of people, and help plan one of Tippecanoe County's largest events. Volunteers are needed to assist in many areas of the committee including Team Development, Promotions, Advocacy, Mission, and many other types of activities.

The Lafayette Crisis Center is seeking new volunteers. They are a non-profit 24/7 Crisis/I&R hotline that provides a wide range of services to our community. Training is provided so no experience is necessary! Training begins soon, contact for more details.
